Analyzing the Formation of Gaseous Emissions during Aluminum Melting Process with Utilization of Oxygen-Enhanced Combustion

Oxygen-enhanced combustion (OEC) is a useful method for improving the efficiency of thermal plants and decreasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Basic modified burner designs utilizing OEC in aluminum melting process rotary tilting furnace were studied. A combined approach comprising experimental measurement simulation modeling was adopted aimed at assessing GHG emissions production. Reduction up to 60% fuel consumption total natural used laboratory-scale achieved. The optimal oxygen concentration oxidizer regarding amount produced per charge expressed as CO2 equivalent 35% vol. Its further increase led only marginal savings, while nitrogen oxide increased rapidly. Using along with around 10% lower 15% emissions, compared using standard air/fuel burner. CFD simulations revealed reasons these observations: improved mixing patterns more uniform temperature field. Modified application, moreover, enables productivity be by shortening time 16%. presented findings demonstrate feasibility proposed modification highlight its better energy environmental performance indicators, indicating enrichment level terms technology applied melting.
